In Southern Germany, police and prosecutors are currently taking measures against a company that allegedly engaged in large-scale trade in fake electronics products. Suspected counterfeits worth several hundred thousand euro were confiscated.

The Ravensburg county court issued a search warrant for a business in the district of Biberach which is alleged to have imported counterfeit smartphone accessories from Asia, among other items. The counterfeits were then suspectedly resold worldwide from Germany. The products are reportedly counterfeits of name-brand products.

Local authorities searched the 34-year-old business owner’s company facilities and apartment, confiscating large quantities of counterfeit electronics articles, including batteries, displays, headsets, charger cables, and tablets. The exact value of the products is not yet known, but the investigators assume that the counterfeit brand products would have generated several hundreds of thousands of euro in revenue if sold on a retail basis. Several truckloads were reportedly needed to transport the confiscated goods.

A discovery made by customs authorities at Leipzig Airport triggered the raid. They had confiscated suspicious goods from Hong Kong destined for the company in Biberach. Prosecutors and police are now investigating the business director, who is already known to the authorities from previous investigations. The man must now answer for punishable offenses against brand and intellectual property law.
